The AP Legislative Committee on Public Accounts led by its Chairman Buggana Rajendranath Reddy visited ‘Rayala Cheruvu’ and ‘Peruru Cheruvu’ near Tirupati on Monday. The panel members went in a boat to inspect the sluice and tank bunds.

Tirupati: The AP Legislative Committee on Public Accounts led by its Chairman Buggana Rajendranath Reddy visited ‘Rayala Cheruvu’ and ‘Peruru Cheruvu’ near Tirupati on Monday. The panel members went in a boat to inspect the sluice and tank bunds.

Local residents Babu Yadav and Devarajulu Naidu have explained the tank details to the committee members. They said that it was a strong construction. There was no leakage at any place of the bund. Without using the cement and sand the entire construction was made with stone only, they informed panel members. The total extent of the tank is 670 acres and it has 812 acres of ayacut.

Committee Chairman Rajendranath Reddy said that there was huge water shortage in north coastal and Rayalaseema regions. They will give a report on how to make use of rainwater and the available water sources in these areas. Giving priority to irrigation and drinking water, the committee will inspect several tanks. Minor Irrigation department is to be strengthened, he observed.

Later, they visited Peruru tank in Tirupati rural mandal. The farmers of the area made an appeal to the committee to curb the encroachments of the tank and take up repairs. Committee members, P Subhash Chandra Bose, P Vishnu Kumar Raju, Minor irrigation Chief Engineer Sivaram Prasad, SE Sivarama Krishna and other officials were among those present.

Later, they proceeded to Chittoor and reviewed the minor irrigation works in the district. Along with the Committee members, District Collector PS Pradyumna also participated in the review. Putalapattu MLA Sunil Kumar and Piler MLA Chithala Ramachandra Reddy were also present.
