Vijayawada: Civil Supplies Minister Prathipati Pulla Rao on Monday said that advanced gas sensors would be used to check the quantity of gas filled in the domestic gas cylinders. He said the government was determined to check fraudulent and cheating practices in filling and supply of domestic gas to consumers in the state.

Pulla Rao along with the officials of civil supplies and legal metrology inspected the Indane Oil Corporation gas filling plant in Kondapalli on Monday and personally verified the quantity of gas filled in the cylinders.

The officials have informed that gas sensors are being used to verify the accuracy of gas filled in the cylinders and expressed satisfaction over the functioning of plant. Later, addressing media persons, the Minister said the government was taking all measures to ensure supply of 14.2 kg gas to consumers.

He said the officials should have the responsibility of checking gas cylinders while passing them from filling plants to godowns and ultimately to consumers. He added that surprise checks are made to plug irregularities taking place in the plants.

He said the government has received many complaints about the less quantity of gas cylinders being supplied to consumers and cheating practices adopted in filling and supply of cylinders to consumers.

He said random checks are conducted at the filling points in the state to verify the quantity of gas. The Minister warned that stringent action would be taken if irregularities are detected in filling plants. He said the quantity of gas is decreasing in cylinders when they are going from plants to godowns.

Gas filling plant chief manager BK Jaiswal said the plant is using advanced computer system to fill gas in the cylinders and added consumers can lodge complaint to toll free number 1800 2333 555 if they notice any irregularities.

Senior plant manager KSR Prasad said Indane Gas is taking measures to give weighing machine to every gas delivery boy so that the consumer can verify the weight of cylinder. Officials of civil supplies and legal metrology department accompanied the Minister.
