Guntur: The district administration will continue its drive to seize the outdated city buses plying in the city and suburban areas, according to reliable sources. The Road Transport Authority (RTA) seized 30 private city buses so far and intensified checking drive as per the District Collector’s instructions.
Guntur is being an integral part of the capital city it deserves better public transport facilities and the worn out mini-buses should be shown the door, said District Collector Kona Sasidhar. Meanwhile, the APSRTC introduced a few metro buses and hoping to increase both the buses and services soon.
A few political parties are rallying behind the bus owners and meeting, urging and submitting memoranda to the Collector and other officers to release the seized buses. Lella Appi Reddy, local leader of YSRCP, met the Collector, Transport Minister and senior officers at the Secretariat in this regard.
Mustafa, MLA of Guntur-1 constituency, who was elected on YSRCP ticket, met the Collector at the Public Grievance Day like the common man and submitted a memorandum to restore the seized buses. But the Collector refused, while seized bus owners argued with the Collector and he asked them to leave the premises.
District secretary of CPI J Ajay Kumar, along with the members of AITUC team and Private City Bus Workers Union, staged a protest at the Collectorate. He said that the RTA officials are seizing the city buses which are in good condition. Deputy Transport Commissioner G C Raja Ratnam said that they will conduct regular checking and if they found any vehicle without fitness they will seize.
