Vijayawada: Fathima Medical College students on Tuesday staged a dharna at Dharna Chowk here demanding that the government relocate them into other medical colleges to save their academic year. They demanded the government to start negotiations with the Medical Council of India (MCI) to ensure justice to them.

They also urged the government to take stern action against the Fathima Medical College management for cheating students. The agitating students demanded the resignation of medical and health minister Kamineni Srinivas for allegedly siding with the college management.

Rubina, a student said she got 7,000 rank in Eamcet and belongs to Muslim Minority. “The college management which has no permission from the MCI has cheated me. When the MCI cancelled our admissions, the college management expressed its readiness to return the money. But I demand I be relocated.

I have no option except suicide as I will lose academic year. My parents pooled all the money they have to pay the fee,” she said. Another student M Sharuk, who got 4000 rank in Eamcet said he had paid the huge amount as fee as demanded by the college management which assured to obtain permission from the MCI. He said as soon as it came to light that the college had no permission to admit students, it offered to refund the money.

Prof V Janaki (Hyderabad), mother of a student K Rahana, said that the college management had submitted a false affidavit to the government. She alleged that the students are not being relocated to other colleges to help the college managements to protect 100 seats. She demanded that the government save academic year of the students rather than protecting the interests of the college management.

B Bhupal Reddy, father of Karthik Reddy, a student from Hundupur, said that the college management had collected Rs 30 lakh to 80 lakh from each student but they failed to clarify the doubts of students and parents nor made any efforts to relocate the students. He alleged that the college management collected over Rs 60 crore from the students on false promise of obtaining permission.
