Gutkha worth 50 lakh seized

After the government banned the production, the merchant stopped the distribution and sale of gutkha. But based on the demand for the product from the people, he started stocking gutkha packets and distributing to the pan shops and tea stalls at relatively high price cashing in on the demand.
After taking the charge as Guntur Rural SP Appala Naidu ordered the police to see the ban on gutkha implemented strictly. Based on the orders, the new CI TV Srinivasa Rao raided several shops and seized hundreds of gutkha packets. Meanwhile, the gutkha distributor shifted his godown to Elchuru, his native place in Santamaguluru mandal in Prakasam district, near Vinukonda.
After taking the merchant into custody, the Vinukonda police team raided the godown at Eluchuru on Monday and seized 350 bags of gutkha packets worth Rs 50 lakhs and registered a case.
