The JNTU-A celebrated Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary in its administrative wing on Tuesday. Vice-Chancellor K Rajagopal garlanded Patel’s portrait along with high officials and staff. Addressing the function, the VC said the first Home Minister had earned the name of Iron Man, as he crushed the anti-national elements and heads of many princely States for achieving national unity.

Anantapur: The JNTU-A celebrated Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary in its administrative wing on Tuesday. Vice-Chancellor K Rajagopal garlanded Patel’s portrait along with high officials and staff. Addressing the function, the VC said the first Home Minister had earned the name of Iron Man, as he crushed the anti-national elements and heads of many princely States for achieving national unity.

He stressed the importance of everyone, particularly the youth, to get inspired by the deeds of Patel for striving to protect the country’s unity and integrity, disregarding caste, community, State and language barriers. The VC administered national unity pledge to the gathering. Registrar Prof S Krishnaiah, said Patel had played a crucial role in the framing of the Constitution, as the chairman of the Basic Rights Committee.

After independence, he became Union Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister in the Nehru cabinet and was given the highest civilian award of Bharat Ratna in 1991. Among those present were Rector Prof D Subba Rao and the Directors.

Earlier, head of MBA wing Dr T Narayana Reddy organised a rally by the students to the administrative building and administered a pledge to the gathering. PRO M Anka Rao was also present.
