Dharmavaram: Major Irrigation Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao along with MP Nimmala Kistappa, MLA of Penukonda BK Parthasarathy and MLA of Kadiri Chand Basha on Tuesday offered Jala Harati to Dharmavaram tank following inflows into the tank from the Handri-Neeva Project’s Jeedipalli reservoir.

The tank was full up to 70 per cent following the inflows from the reservoir. Local legislator Gonuguntla Suryanarayana presided over the celebrations. Devineni Uma attributed the inflows into the tank to the untiring efforts made by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and also the
local legislator.

The Chief Minister has been striving to fill all tanks with water through the Pattiseema project, he said charging the Opposition parties with shedding crocodile tears over the issue.

The Opposition parties did not cherish releasing water from Pattiseema project to the tanks in the Rayalaseema as the farmers will get busy with the agriculture operations giving no room for the Opposition to play factional politics, he reasoned.

Unmindful of the criticism, the Chief Minister was bent on turn the parched lands of the Rayalaseema into fertile farms using the Srisailam backwaters, he said and exuded confidence of coming to power after the 2019 polls.

The Handri-Neeva canal would be widened further during the second stint of the TDP, he said. RDO Bala Naik, Tahsildar Mahabub Basha, Commissioner Ravi, MPP Venu Gopal, co-option member Vayalpadu Inayatullah and others graced the occasion.
