Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chairperson G Hymavathi said that sexual harassment and suicides can be prevented if awareness is created on child rights.
She addressed a seminar on ‘Child Safe Guarding Policies’ in the schools held under the aegis of AP State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and World Vision India in the city on Tuesday. Speaking on this occasion, she said, they have conducted the programme how various departments are implementing the programmes to protect the child rights in the state.
She said that sexual harassment cases are on the rise in the schools, if awareness is created, they can check the sexual harassment. She urged the teachers and parents to lodge complaints against those who violate the Child Protection Acts.
Women and Child Welfare Department secretary Kaki Sunita said that they are creating awareness among the girl students on good touch and bad touch. She expressed serious concern over increasing of suicides and sexual harassmen cases. She said that there is need to conduct counselling to the Intermediate students.
Women and Child Welfare Department commissioner H Arun Kumar said that they introduced Kishore Balika Vikasa Scheme and creating awareness on sexual education and taken steps to prevent child marriages.
SCERT director Prof. Rajya Lakshmi said that they are imparting karate training to the girls to protect themselves in the selected schools and urged the interested girls to avail the facility provided by the government.
District senior civil judge PR Rajiv, Krishna district senior civil judge, district ICDS project officer Krishna Kumari, Kadapa DCPO K Siva Prasada Reddy were among those participated.
