They were driving high-end cars, children enrolled in foreign universities and some of the spoils they also shared with their relatives and friends.

Due to turn of events they were trapped by the Anti-Corruption Bureau either red-handed while accepting the bribe are became victim of envy that led to others to inform about their ill-gotten wealth.

Temporarily at least their house of cards collapsed and they landed in the Central Prison. Their life according to jail authorities became tough as they were leading a comfortable life in their air-conditioned chambers both at home, office and vehicles.

“Now they are being forced to stand in the queue for breakfast, lunch and dinner and asked to sleep on the floors. Since winter has already approached, the authorities at least distributed blankets as most of them are above 50 years of age,’’ jail sources said.

During last one month, 10 officials from various departments were lodged in the jail. They include retired tahsildar of Vizag rural Majji Shankar Rao, tahsildar of Bhimili BTV Rama Rao, director of town planning GV Raghu , circle inspector of police from Vizianagaram G Narsimha Murty, head constable P Vijay Bhaskar Paul, deputy tahasildar from Srikakulam C Haribabu, deputy thahsildar of Bhimili G Raja Sridhar and government surveyor G Laxmi Ganeswa Rao.

Among the top officials DSP Dasari Ravibabu is serving remand facing murder charges. He was recently taken to police custody for questioning. In the education department, Solomon Raju, principal of AP Residential School Achyutapuram, was remanded and his bail application is pending.
