District Superintendent of Police Gopinath Jetty on Tuesday paid glowing tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on the occasion of the 142nd birth anniversary of the Iron Man of India, observed as the Ekta Diwas, and flagged off the “Run for Unity” in the city.

A large number of youth took part in the run commenced from Kondareddy Buruju in the heart of the city to Raj Vihar and back to the SP office near the Kondareddy Buruju. The SP administered pledge to the participants that they will rededicate themselves for defence of the motherland.

Explaining the significance of the unity run, the SP called upon one and all for support to check the extremist activities. A candle light march was held towards the evening. APSP second battalion commandant Samuel John, Additional SPs P Shekshavali and I Venkatesh, Officer on Special Duty Ravi Prakash, Home Guard Commandant Chandra Mouli, DSPs Nazeemuddin, Muralidhar, Khadar Basha and Krishna Mohan, CIs, RIs and RSIs took part in the run.

In Adoni, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha organised a ‘Run for Unity’ from the Viswanarayana College to Yemmiganur Circle and back to the place of origin. The BJYM town president, Deepak Rathod, said that had Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel become the first prime minister of the country, there would have been no scope for practicing politics of heredity. Patel became the Strong Man of India by merging over 500 principalities with the Indian Union. Former MLA Prakash Jain, BJYM district vice-president Sanjay Pande, BJYM secretary Manikantha and others took part.
