Vijayawada: The Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Bangara Raju, here on Wednesday announced that 150 tribal boys were picked up from 13 districts in the state to train them as talented sportspersons of international standard.

Addressing the media, he said that the training would take place at tribal school in Araku which is a suitable place for executing the plan. As per the directive of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the SAAP had selected the tribal students from Class V to Class IX after screening.

In all, 1,300 boys took part in the selection process. If encouraged, the tribal talent would excel on international sports platforms and bring laurels to the country.

The SAAP conducted the final selection in a transparent manner at Kodi Rammurthy Sports Complex in Srikakulam on Tuesday and Wednesday, he claimed. He further stated that girls would also be selected for training from next academic year.

Training would be given in athletics, archery, volleyball, weightlifting, handball, gymnastics, hockey and football. Usually, the tribal boys excel in athletics followed by long jump and high jump.
