Nellore: State Human Rights Commission has taken up the case of a patient as suo motu over the negligence of a government hospital doctor for leaving surgical scissors inside the stomach while performing a surgery which created serious health problem to him.

It may be recalled that Chalapathi, who works in a rice mill, was admitted to the government general hospital on October 3 with stomach pain and the doctors conducted a surgery. He was subsequently discharged from the hospital. Still, he was getting continuous pain even after three weeks and again he approached the hospital for treatment.

Doctors asked him to bring x-ray in which they found a scissors inside the stomach and saying nothing they had simply performed surgery again for removing the equipment. The issues came to light after almost one month and the victim informed to the media about negligence of a doctor.

Now, the patient is in the Intensive Care Unit undergoing treatment. Medical Superintendent informed to the District Collector about the incident and chairman of the Hospital Development Committee visited the hospital on Wednesday and warned that they would take action against the doctor.

He interacted with patient and his relatives and said SHRC also taken up the case as suo motu and asked them to send a report on the event. He instructed the doctors to be vigilant in providing medical services. Otherwise, action would be initiated against them for any lapses, he said.
