Tirupati: The TTD officials began corrective measures against the looting of devotees by the hoteliers as the High Court of Hyderabad has expressed anger over TTD EO Anil Kumar Singhal for allowing hoteliers to charge excess price for foods items in Tirumala shrine.
The High Court made strong comments of the TTD officials colluding with the hoteliers and shop owners, and allowing them to loot devotees, while dealing with a PIL filed by Parihaara Seva Samiti. The EO issued orders to take necessary action against the hotels and shops which are violating rules.
In this connection, Tirumala JEO Srinivasa Raju held a meeting with hoteliers on collecting high prices from devotees. He warned them to stop looting devotees. The owners, who had obtained TTD permission to run hotels in Tirumala by paying Rs 30 lakh to 45 lakh per year were charging Rs 250 to 350 for meal per head.
They are collecting more than Rs 150 for other food items. Even, small food stall owners are charging Rs 100 for snacks and beverages while the display board mentions the cost of these items as Rs 10 only.
Meanwhile, the sources say that the EO is studying the lapses in tender system being implemented by the TTD for the last few years. He is contemplating to change the existing tender agreement rules and call for fresh bids to hotels in December.
Anil Kumar want to incorporate stringent rules with regard to prices of food items. New rules likely to be implemented by the TTD is to cancel the shop tenancy if they sell any food item more than the price fixed by the TTD and also to collect hefty fine from hoteliers.
So far, the TTD estate officials have collected more than Rs 25 lakh as fine from the hoteliers in Tirumala shrine. The estate officials are preparing a detailed report of penalties imposed on hoteliers to file the counter by November 14 in the High Court. Srinivasa Raju has refused to reveal the details of the meeting which he has conducted with the hoteliers on Wednesday.
