Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Yuvajana and Vidyardhi Joint Action Committee, which comprises students from all 14 universities in Andhra Pradesh, has decided to organise Chalo Delhi on November 29 and 30 to exert pressure on the Central government for passing the bill granting Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh.

Representatives of 14 universities, under the banner of ‘Yuvajana, Vidyardhi JAC’ met at the Press Club here on Thursday and discussed about the course of action to relaunch agitation to accord SCS. The leaders have discussed how Andhra Pradesh is losing benefits for not granting SCS which was promised by both the Congress and the BJP before the bifurcation of the state.

The JAC has decided to take out rallies in Rayalaseema region on November 10 and 11, stage protests at Dharna Chowk in Vijayawada on November 17 and 18 and conduct rallies in North Coastal Andhra on November 24 and 25. And, Chalo Delhi will be observed on November 29 and 30 to stage dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

JAC State committee chairman DV Krishna Yadav (Nellore), State committee president Ravi Kiran (Vizag), State committee convener V Ravi Sankar Reddy (Kadapa) and other panel members participated in the meeting. The JAC leaders passed a resolution to restart the agitation for the SCS.

Addressing the JAC meeting, Andhra Pradesh Pratyeka Hoda Sadhana Samiti convener Chalasani Srinivas said that the BJP-led government at the Centre showing discrimination against Andhra Pradesh government in allotment of funds. He said that not even one All India Institute of Medical Sciences was established in South India and added all the existing AIIMS were set up in North Indian states.

He said Andhra Pradesh got nominal share of only .01 per cent in Swachh Bharat Mission funds while the BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh got 21 per cent share. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is investing Rs 1.20 lakh crore on bullet train for Gujarat and developing ports in that state but neglecting Andhra Pradesh and other South Indian states interests.

He said the AP paid heavy price for not granting SCS and added recently the Central government had extended special package to Special Category Status states worth Rs 26,000 crore.

Chalasani Srinivas has alleged that none of the promises made during the bifurcation of the state was fulfilled in the three years BJP rule. Pratyeka Hoda Sadhana Samiti general secretary N Sadasiva Reddy said that backward region Rayalaseema will be developed with the granting of SCS.
