Amaravati: The YSR Congress Party ‘informed’ the Director General of Police (DGP) of Andhra Pradesh that the party chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy will be undertaking seven months-long Praja Sankalpa Yatra on foot from November 6.

P Krishnamohan Reddy, personal secretary to the leader of Opposition, has sent a letter (dated November 1) to the DGP and informed about the padayatra. He said the padayatra would commence from Idupulapaya in Kadapa district and culminate in Ichchapuram in Srikakulam district.

The padayatra would cover around 3,000 kms across 13 districts in AP and would be spanning over a period of seven months, he said in the letter. The padayatra will be 15 km to 16 km every day and Jagan will interact with people during the time. He also informed that party leaders, including MPs, MLAs and well-wishers would accompany Jaganmohan Reddy.

He requested the DGP to make necessary security arrangements as Jaganmohan Reddy is in Z category. However, the Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister N Chinarajappa and DGP N Sambasiva Rao have stressed that prior permission to undertake padayatra is mandatory.

Countering this, the YSRC leaders said Chief Minister N Chandrababu did not take any permission to his padayatra in 2012-13 when he was the Opposition leader. Jaganmohan Reddy announced padayatra to reach the people to expose the failures of the Telugu Desam Party government as General elections will be held in 2019. He also decided to boycott winter session of AP Assembly despite facing criticism from ruling party.

Jagan is considering the padayatra as a tool to get into power. His father and Congress leader YS Rajasekhar Reddy undertook 60-day, 1,500 km padayatra from Chevella in Rangareddy district on April 9, 2003 to expose the drought related problems during Chandrababu Naidu’s regime then.
