Radio, which was on the verge of extinction, bounced back with a bang, thanks to FM Radio. Taking a cue from the success of FM Radio, School Radio programme launched by Visakha Digital School and supported by Visakha Dhatri Organisation. 

Visakhapatnam: Radio, which was on the verge of extinction, bounced back with a bang, thanks to FM Radio. Taking a cue from the success of FM Radio, School Radio programme launched by Visakha Digital School and supported by Visakha Dhatri Organisation.

The organisation is imparting training to the students in content writing, concept thinking, editing, and storytelling through School Radio programme. The School Radio is promoting School Radio Clubs. Each School Radio Club consists of 10 students and one teacher. These clubs facilitate the production of radio programmes by capturing the young voices.

The team of School Radio, will visit the schools and conduct workshops to shape up the young minds in content writing, concept thinking, editing and storytelling.

The Radio Clubs of the schools can choose a topic and develop a programme and the School Radio team would telecast the same programme through online radio. The telecasting time of the programme will be intimated to the clubs and the school children would witness their talents through the programme. As there are less sports and games activities, children with enthusiastic manner attracting to the media programmes.

Gali Aruna is the founder of School Radio and Managing Partner of Digital School that offers training in web designing, digital film making and e-Publishing. Aruna facilitated production of 55 short films on sustainable agricultural practices for Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty- Community Managed Sustainable Agriculture and Digital Green.

Youth, below 30 years, occupy above 50 per cent of the total population of the globe. Youth occupy 27.5 per cent (15-29 age group-as per 'India youth policy-2014') and 10-35 age group occupy 56.3 crore in India. But we are neglecting their voices. School Radio is providing a platform for children and youth to create, enhance and share their voices with the world.

School Radio brings out the talent of children and youth. It promotes communication, public speaking skills and team building among them. The process enhances their abilities, presentation skills, and confidence. At present, these programmes are in Telugu, Hindi and English, and would like to include all the regional languages in future,” Gali Aruna told The Hans India.

A three-day School Radio workshop at schools will be conducted. As many as 50 students and five teachers from your school can participate. During the workshops, interactive sessions, training in content development, recording and editing audio files will be explained. Every school will get 30 minutes slot in a month in School Radio for eight months.

After workshops, School Radio Clubs will independently develop radio programmes. Radio Club members can participate in School Radio programmes, all over the year by reciting poems, songs, narrating folk tales, stories, talks and debates.

School Radio Club members facilitate and encourage other students to participate in the School Radio Club activities. As many as 175 School Radio Clubs have been formed so far in Visakhapatnam city.
