New cadre to improve standards in civic schools
In order to improve educational standards in the municipal schools, the government is going to create deputy educational officer (Deputy EO) posts in municipal corporations and municipal education officers in municipalities very soon. The municipal administration department is appointing DyEOs in the 11 municipal corporations and municipal EOs in the 59 municipalities in the state.

Of the 110 municipalities in the state, 59 municipalities have schools. Municipal administration director Kanna Babu agreed to create posts on ad hoc basis during the ongoing promotions for municipal teachers following proposal from municipal teachers. After getting nod from the finance department, the director will give promotions with pay scales to the municipal teachers. If everything goes smoothly, this process will be completed within one month.
Currently, school supervisors are supervising the functioning of municipal schools and assessing the performance of the teachers.The municipal commissioners and additional commissioners are not in a position to allot more time for schools to improve the educational standards.If the DyEO and MEO are appointed,they will take steps for the development of schools.
The government has already introduced English medium in the municipal schools and started IIT foundations classes from Class VI. The teachers working in the corporate schools imparted necessary training to the teachers for IIT foundation courses and English medium classes to improve educational standards.
Municipal Teachers Federation state president S Ramakrishna said DMA Kanna Babu had agreed to give ad hoc promotions to fill the Dy EO, MEO posts in the ongoing promotions. In the new promotions system, district will be treated as one unit, as against the practice of one municipality or corporation treated as a unit. The government wants to prepare subject-wise record for each student to lay more focus on each student to improve educational standards and pass percentage in the SSC, he said.
