Guntur (Andhra Pradesh) : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said the state government will finish the ambitious Pattiseema project before 2019.

"Our government is committed to environment. That's why we have introduced programmes like "Neeru-Chettu" (water and tree), "Nagara Vanam" (urban forest) to increase green cover and increase water table. Our government is giving utmost priority to irrigation projects, so that land under cultivation in the state gets ample water. Now, our aim is to finish off Pattiseema project before 2019," the Chief Minister said, while addressing a mass gathering during Van Mahotsav celebrations at Perecherla village of Guntur district.

Naidu said the government launched the Nagara Vanam programme to address environmental concerns.

"It is customary in Andhra Pradesh to organize Vana Mahotsav where families gather in gardens, offer prayers to trees (particularly amla tree), have group lunch and enjoy the outing. The state government recently started Nagara Vanam programme to promote greenery and address environmental concerns," Naidu said.

The chief minister also said that the awareness regarding environment was growing among the people, particularly among the youth.

"Worshipping nature is our culture. Our ancestors know the value of environment, that's why they made it a tradition to pray trees. Environment protection is our responsibility. Nowadays, awareness regarding environment is growing, particularly among the youth. It is a good sign," he added.
