e-Verify to track criminals launched

Ongole: The Andhra Pradesh Police launched e-Verify, an app to detect and track criminals registered with the department, at the Prakasam district. Guntur range DIG KVV Gopala Rao launched the app and handed over to Prakasam police as a pilot project in the district.

The e-Verify app will be connected to the database of biometrics of history sheeters, known as depredators, dossier criminals and suspects collected in the server. As of now, the Andhra Pradesh police has a database of nearly 30,000 criminals in the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System.

This app will use the data, along with the facility to include new entries through the android app. The hand-held device will be used to register and verify the fingerprints of the criminals or even suspects so that the patrolling parties can know whether a person in front them is a criminal or not. The DIG announced that e-Verify app will be used to register and track the history sheeters and their locations.

He said that as part of routine exercise, the police personnel conduct the biometric verification of the history sheeters and geo tag the location of them by adding remarks that the person is available, not available, in jail or no information. This software, which will generate periodical reports, will be introduced in all other districts after considering the performance, he added.
