Bandar Canal Bund facelift works begin

Vijayawada: Water Resources Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and Vijayawada MP Kesineni Srinivas on Saturday launched the canal beautification works in the city. The Minister and MP, along with District Collector B Lakshmikantham, Municipal Commissioner J Nivas, Mayor Koneru Sridhar, MLA Gadde Rammohan, MLC Buddha Venkanna, laid the foundation for canal beautification works.

People’s representatives planted saplings on Bandar Canal near veterinary hospital at Labbipet. The VMC has taken up 18 km beautification works, along three canals Ryves Canal, Bandar Canal and Elur Canal with the assistance of Amaravati Development Corporation and Tourism Department.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao said Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is striving to develop Vijayawada city and insisting for beautification of three canals. He said thousands of saplings will be planted along the three canals. He informed that Kanaka Durga flyover would resolve the traffic problem in the city.

Mayor Sridhar said the Bandar Canal beautification works will be continued up to Skew Bridge Junction with Rs 2 crore and later Eluru and Ryves Canal Bunds beautification works will be taken up by the VMC. He said the civic body is trying to create serene and beautiful atmosphere along the canal bunds in the city. District Collector Lakshmikantham, MP Kesineni Srinivas, MLA Gadde Rammohan and others spoke on the occasion.
