Visakhapatnam: GVMC Commissioner M Hari Narayanan said that the revenue department of the corporation collected Rs 134.77 crore property tax and Rs 150 crore water tax in the present fiscal.

However, the corporation collected Rs 6.8 crore against the total water tax arrears of Rs 29 crore and Rs 17 crore only collected against the property tax arrears of Rs 37 crore, the Commissioner said.

Addressing the media here on Saturday, Hari Narayanan urged the citizens to cooperate with the corporation by paying the taxes without further delay.

The corporation has been taking up several development works and the citizens should cooperate to the corporation, he appealed. The Commissioner said that from December 1 onwards, the garbage segregation into dry and wet should be taken up.

The corporation should not lift the garbage, if the people are not segregating into wet and dry, Hari Narayanan said.

“If the apartment dwellers resort to dumping the trash in the nearby places against our regulations, we do not hesitate to levy heavy fines or initiate legal action against them. We will issue a paper notification to this effect,” Hari Narayanan said.
