Vijayawada: Krishna District Collector B Lakshmikantham said massive plantation drive was launched in the district as part of Kartika Vanamahotsavam. The Collector, along with the officials and Zilla Parishad Chairperson Gadde Anuradha, participated in Vanamahotsavam near Nunna.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that under Vanamahotsavaram, self-help groups will take part in plantation drive on Sunday. Similarly, workers of Employment Guarantee Scheme will plant saplings in rural areas on Monday, students of schools and colleges on November 7, workers in factories and industries on November 8, students in social welfare hostels on November 9 and workers of Anganwadis on November 10. Andhra Paper Mill, Bhadrachalam Paper Mill and forest department had already planted three crore saplings across the district, he added. Gadde Anuradha called upon the people to save their culture and tradition.

Cultural programmes, including Kuchipudi dance and mimicry, enthralled the participants. The officials played shuttle badminton and planted saplings on the premises. They also took part in the community lunch.
