Eluru: Andhra Pradesh Minister for LabourPithani Satyanarayana has called up on the people to plant a sapling as a social responsibility to protect the environment and to save the mankind.

He participated in the Kartika VanaSamaradhana held at the central nursery of Forest department inTadikalapudi village of Kamavarapukota Mandal on Saturday.
He, along with former Minister Peethala Sujatha and district Collector K Bhaskar, planted saplings in the nursery.

Later, addressing the students of various schools, the Minister said that Chief Minister had identified the importance of water and accordingly he had taken up the river-linkage programme, water conservation and NeeruChettu programmes. He said that in our country, 24 percent is forest area and in Andhra Pradesh, it stood at 23 percent. In West Godavari district, it is only 17 percent.

`In view of this, we have to develop forest area. It is decided to plant 50 percent of the saplings in the state’s total extent by 2029,’he said and called up on the people to join hands for this big project. He said that the Kartika VanaSamaradhana programme has taken up as per the call given by Chief Minister. Former Minister Peethala Sujatha, Collector K Bhaskar and others addressed the students.

The School children performed BharataNatyam and Kuchipudi dances with a message of saving trees. The Minister appreciated the students for their message through dance. On the occasion, the Minister administered pledge to the students to protect forests.
Forest officials Rizvi, DFOs Ramakrishna, Saibaba and SivaShankar Reddy and others participated. The Minister presented dictionaries to the students on the occasion.
