Tirupati: The speakers at the 5K Run organised by Central tax, Tirupati GST Commissionerate, as part of the Vigilance Awareness Week, strongly advocated the role of youth in combatting corruption. The Vigilance Awareness Week was observed from October 30 to November 4 and the department conducted 5K Run on Saturday.

About 130 members and most of them were youth took part in the run, which began from Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) and went through Prakasam road, Gandhi road, Nethaji road etc and concluded again at SVU. Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner of Central Tax, GST Commissionerate K Engineer said that, to combat corruption, the involvement of all the citizens of the country is required and more importantly the younger generation.

Youth should realise from this age itself that corruption should be controlled at any cost and know the value system. Tirupati International Airport Director H Pulla opined that, total transparency can be achieved through e-governance. He stated corruption in government departments will come down drastically through e-governance and organising awareness events against corruption.

Additional District and Sessions Judge G Ramgopal observed that the society at large became selfish and to drive away corruption from the country, the governments were organising these type awareness programmes. The youth were looking towards a better society which has no place for corruption. Everyone should fight against corruption. Courts were also acting tough against corruption. SVU Vice-Chancellor Prof A Damodaram felt that the theme of this year’s Vigilance Awareness Week, “My vision, corruption free India” was so apt. In fact, it should be everyone’s vision to see a corruption free India and everyone should fall in line to fight against the evil. It is happy to note that the voice of citizens was raising loudly these days against corruption. The Joint Commissioner of Central tax Amaresh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Anburaj and other officials of the department were present. Prizes were distributed to the winners of 5K Run.
