Kurnool: Collector S Sathyanarayana said there is a dire need to encourage people to plant saplings in their houses and vacant places to preserve environment from pollution.

Participating as chief guest at Karthika Vana Mahotsavam organised at Nagara Vanam on Sunday, the Collector said the Vana Mahotsavam is being observed every year during Karthika Masam as a festival. Stating the Vana Mahotsavam would be observed for a week this month,

he said everyone should plant at least one sapling as responsibility and nurture them to save the environment. The Collector accompanied with his family members performed puja to goose berry tree.

On the occasion, cultural programmes and musical concert were organised enthralling the attendants and audience. Gazals sung by Mohammed Miya stood special attraction of the event. Later, the collector and district officials played volley ball, ring throw ball, tug of war, musical chair game and other games.

Superintendent of Police Gopinath Jetti, MLA SV Mohan Reddy, Forest Conservator Gopinath, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Eshwar, District Revenue Officer Gangadhar Goud, Joint Director, Agriculture department Uma Maheshwaramma, Revenue Division Officer Hussain Sahed and district staff participated.
