International Skill Centre at Amaravati
The State government is going to open International Skill Development Centre in the vicinity of Amaravati. The centre would be operated jointly by Andhra Pradesh Skill Development Corporation, Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugus (APNRT) and various reputed foreign companies. The centre would provide training to the migrants in technical knowledge and also linguistic skills.
Vijayawada: The State government is going to open International Skill Development Centre in the vicinity of Amaravati. The centre would be operated jointly by Andhra Pradesh Skill Development Corporation, Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugus (APNRT) and various reputed foreign companies. The centre would provide training to the migrants in technical knowledge and also linguistic skills.
The premises of Architecture College at Gudavalli in Krishna district and Polytechnic College in Guntur are under consideration for establishing the centre. It is planned that the centre gives training for 1,200 candidates for a batch. It can provide training for more than 10 batches in one year initially and plans to increase the number based on demand.
The centre would give comprehensive training to the migrants in their respective fields. As many as 11 disciplines have been identified including carpenters, electricians, plumbers and other civil construction related works to give training. The training would solve many challenges being faced between employees and employers in the Gulf countries.
According to officials, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is keen to sort out the problems of migrants. He also visited the Gulf countries recently and officials have exchanged agreements in this regard. Now the AP NRT has begun exercise to setup training centre. Besides, National Skill Development Corporation has expressed interest to join as partner with the State government.
The government wants to train the migrants as they face problems in getting necessary training. The employers in the Gulf are changing the jobs and are not giving salaries as was offered in the agreements. As a result, the migrants are getting lower salaries and facing many problems.
In this backdrop, the State government has taken decision to setup a training centre to overcome hurdles of migrants even before they go to Gulf countries. Nearly 12 lakh people from AP are working in Gulf countries; and 12,000 employees migrate from the state annually.
AP NRT president Vemuri Ravi Kumar said that the training centre would be useful for migrants and also to employees. The employers in the Gulf countries are also interested to extend support to give training to the job aspirants.
