Visakhapatnam: As the state government has not been sanctioning enough funds to the National Inter-District Junior Athletics Meet (NIDJAM)to be held in Visakhapatnam for the third time from November 24 to 26, the district administration directed the Organising Committee to explore the sponsors in a big way for the event.

In 2016, the district administration had made good arrangements for the successful completion of the event. Though the government assured the district administration that sufficient funds would be released for 2016 NIDJAM, the government was not in a position to grant the amount against the total expenditure met by the district administration. After a series of requests made by the district administration, the government had released only 50 per cent against the total expenditure.

With that experience, the district administration directed the NIDJAM-2017 organising committee to cut the expenditure to maximum extent and explore the sponsors. The Organising Committee is now urging the college and school managements to provide accommodation to the sportspersons in their hostels coming from across the country. The administration is also requesting the college and school managements to utilize their hostel dining halls for the sportspersons.

For the transport arrangements, the administration directed the deputy transport commissioner to arrange the necessary vehicles for the event.
The administration informed the transport department that expenditure of lubricants and fuel will be paid to the vehicles. As a part of the cost-effective measures, this time the administration stopped to appoint an event manager and directed the Organising Committee to appoint one anchor only for the event.

“Yes, the government did not release the funds for 2016-NIDJAM. With this experience, we are now searching for sponsors. As there is no positive sign from the government, the administration directed the Organising Committee to be more careful about the expenditure of 2017-NIDJAM,” a senior official told The Hans India.
