He devised an automatic street-lighting system wherein when a vehicle passes the road gets illuminated and switches off after it passes by. He said, this system makes highways more energy efficient and the life span of bulbs can also be increased as they are not switched on always. It can also be used in parking areas of malls, hotels, industrial lighting etc.
Another student also came with similar idea of conserving energy at houses, offices, institutes etc. In his model, lights, fans, air-conditioners and other electrical appliances switched on automatically when one enters the room and switches off when that person leaves the room. He designed this with infrared technology based on automatic sensor switch.
J Ram Naik’s model which promotes a social cause of saving human life while driving attracts many visitors. Hailing from the APTWRS, Renigunta campus, he devised an automatic helmet with the help of his guide teacher T Narayana Reddy in which the bike does not start without the rider wearing a helmet.
He said, through this system the rate of bike accident deaths can be reduced. Several such projects designed by students of tribal schools across Rayalaseema zone with the guidance from their science teachers found place in the exhibition. The students came from remote places were explaining about their project in English to the visitors.
Salt water based mobile charging system, multiple alarm to control thefts, water overflow from overhead tank etc., and various other exhibits relating to mathematical models, transportation and communication, agriculture, health and nutrition showcase the talent of the students. In all, 45 schools were participating in the three-day science fair. There were 201 exhibits from 350 students and 98 guided teachers were also taking part.
Sub-Collector Nishanth Kumar inaugurated the science fair on Wednesday at APTWRS campus in Renigunta near airport. He praised the efforts of students and their guides. He expressed hope that this type of innovations should add to the welfare of the poor. Sharing the ideas among the students of various schools gives a good experience.
