Tirupati: Philatelists, who have been procuring ‘My Stamp’ collections in addition to the regular ones, can now wait for a sacred addition to their kitty. Postal department in Tirupati will be launching a new template for ‘My Stamp’. They choose Ananda Nilayam of Tirumala for the purpose.
‘My stamp’ is the brand name for personalised sheets of postage stamps of India Post. The department introduced the concept in 2011 in the country during the World Philatelic Exhibition, INDIPEX-2011. Ever since, the new concept was introduced, there was significant demand from the public.
There were several templates, on which the thumbnail photo of customer’s choice will be printed like Taj Mahal, Charminar, Ganga Harathi, Mysore Palace, Butterfly, Red Fort etc. Now, keeping the importance and sentiments of the people over Ananda Nilayam, the sanctum santorum of Lord Venkateswara, the department has decided to bring it as a template.
The authorities were planning to inaugurate the new template in a grand way at a function to be organised very soon. Normally, stamps are released on veteran and sports personalities, and places of national importance etc. Individuals and some business firms will never get a stamp on them in their life time.
Sensing the feelings of the public, who respond positively whenever they see a stamp on such great personalities or places etc., the department felt that everyone will come forward to have a stamp which can be saved forever with them as a memory on the important events of their life. ‘My Stamp’ concept was thus a success with the India Post and it prompted to extend the scheme to cover all postal circles.
Those intended to take ‘My Stamp’, need to pay Rs 300 in all sub-post offices or identified offices, to get a sheet of 12 stamps of Rs 5 each. The stamp will be issued then and there only after completing the required formalities and printing. They have to select the choice of their template from the available list. They can give the photograph of them or their family members or any other according to their preference.
The Superintendent of Tirupati division G Srinivasa Murthy told The Hans India, that there was a continuous demand was for ‘My Stamp’. From April this year, 1,156 ‘My Stamps’ were issued. People take them to gift their grandparents, to their parents on their wedding anniversaries or even on the occasion of their kids’ birthdays.
There were many such occasions like the first day in school of kids, taking charge at a higher position in office etc., on which people may get ‘My Stamps’. Even corporate companies were utilising the scheme on important events. On the occasion of Children’s Day on November 14 this year, Tirupati Postal division will be organising fancy dress competition for school children. On that occasion also, ‘My Stamp’ will be issued, he maintained.
