Flamingo festival from Jan 7
District administration is gearing up for organising annual Flamingo Festival at Sullurpet from January 7 to 9. District Collector R Mutyala Raju, who interacted with officials at the camp office on Friday, asked the officials to expedite arrangements aptly.

He also said 9,000-12,000 birds have already reached the places for breeding for giving an eye feast to the bird lovers. He exuded confidence that the number would augment with the present favourable weather conditions.
The Collector also said that the state government had allocated Rs 3 crore for conducting the event and Rs 2.5 crore would be spent for improving infrastructure and Rs 50 lakh earmarked for cultural activities during vthe three-day festival.
He said the Central government had also sanctioned funds for tourism development under Swadesh Darshan scheme and some amount would be used for constructing toilets and other amenities. He also asked the officials to chalk out plan to attract sightseers and also organise awareness activity on the fest in different parts of the state.
He instructed the officials to organise the activities in Chennai, Bengaluru, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Ongole districts for creating awareness among people on the festival. He said fest would be organised in Sullurpet besides Nelapattu, Atakanitippa and BV Palem areas and asked to prepare necessary arrangements there too. Revenue Divisional Officers from Atmakur and Naidupet were also present.
