Guntur: Zilla Parishad (ZP) Chairperson Shaik Janimun gave a call to minority youth to emulate Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. The ZP chief participated in the 130th birth anniversary celebrations of Azad here on Saturday.

She recalled the services of Abul Kalam Azad for freedom movement and contribution to country as India’s first Education Minister. District Collector Kona Sasidhar said that the state government has decided to celebrate Azad’s birthday as National Education Day and Minorities Welfare Day.

The Collector advised minority communities to utilise the schemes being implemented by the state government. He added that 44,000 beneficiaries from minorities have received Rs 84 crore as scholarship. Kona Sasidhar further said free training is being provided to minority women for making them to earn Rs 10,000 per month. MLC AS Ramakrishna stressed on the need for Andhra Pradesh to improve its ranking in literacy from 67 per cent to national standard of 74 per cent.

Guntur-2 MLA M Venugopala Reddy, nominated MLA Philip C Tocher, and other officials were present. District officials have distributed Rs 7.46 crore to 1,493 beneficiaries under Dulhan scheme and under overseas education, Rs 80 lakh was distributed to beneficiaries.
