Prakasam sets record in construction of toilets
The Prakasam district administration created a new record in constructing the most number of toilets in a single day, on Saturday. The teams formed in the district are successful in constructing 25,371 individual household latrines, beating the record of Vizianagaram constructing 23,000 latrines in a single day.

To announce the Prakasam district as an Open Defecation-Free (ODF) district, the government identified that 1.75 lakh toilets should be constructed in the district. The concerned department approved the number and sanctioned the required funds.
The officials completed the construction of 80,164 toilets before the Chief Minister wants to announce the district as ODF by this month end. By then, only 331 panchayats in the 1,028 are announced ODF and the toilets in the remaining panchayats should be completed immediately. While there are toilets under construction, the Collector V Vinay Chand learned that construction of 51,689 toilets yet to start.
He ordered the officials to start the construction of the toilets on Saturday itself and complete them immediately. On the instructions of the Collector, RWS superintending engineer Sanjeev Reddy, DPO NSSV Prasad, DRDA PD Murali, Housing PD Srinivasa Rao, STEP CEO Ravi, ZP Deputy CEO Sai Kumari, MEPMA PD Annapurnamma, BC Corporation ED Nageswara Rao, SSA PD Venkateswara Rao and other officials formed teams and reported the progress every hour. By 6 pm, the officials announced that they have completed the construction of 25,371 toilets on Saturday and still continuing the construction.
