Nellore: Marriages are made in heaven but celebrated on earth. However, people are on toes to perform marriages due to lack of auspicious days till March next year. With only four days left in last week of November for marriages, the marriage parties are in piquant situation in planningfor season due to shortage of basic requirements like venue, purohit, catering and decoration facilities.

Purohits say Guru Moudhyami ends on November 9 and Sukramoudhyami starts from December 1. So, there are only four auspicious days in November,23, 24, 25 and 29 and the inauspicious days during Sukramoudhyami for marriages continue till February 17.

“People are in hurry that there will be no auspicious days till middle of February next and this Telugu year has many Moudhyami days giving a bit discouragement to the people where tradition will not allow to perform marriages. As per Telugu almanac, Moudhyami is not preferable for marriages and last auspicious day during this season is November 29,” said S Satyanarayana, a local Purohit.

According to caterers and Purohits, there will be more than 1,200 marriages fixed in and around Nellore city during the season and now, there is a shortage of Purohits and caterers for meeting the huge demand. Simultaneously, there is a huge demand for Kalyana Mantapams located in temples as people who fail to get accommodation in a suitable marriage hall, perform marriage in temple mantapams.

Consequently, the cost is also high due to demand for marriage halls with registration facility and Kalyana Mantapams located in temples. Some people have booked both Kalyana Mantapams and temple stage for marriage and post-marriage celebrations such as Grihapravesam and Satyanarayana Vratam.

“There is no vacant marriage hall or Kalyana Mantap attached to a temple in the city limits. Some people who failed to get venue are now scouting for vacant lands in schools and colleges for making temporary arrangements. And, some are planning to perform at their residences. This is really a harrowing time for people as all auspicious days falls in a single month,” said TV Gopala Rao, an event manager.
