Vijayawada: A 14th century AD inscription was found amidst thorny bushes at Mallavaram village in Prakasam district, says Dr E Sivanagi Reddy, CEO, the Cultural Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravati (CCVA), who inspected it under Preserve Heritage for Posterity Scheme.

Dr Reddy found that the inscription was issued by Mallareddy, brother of Prolaya Vemareddy, the founder of the Reddy dynasty of Kondaveedu, carved Reddy with a Garuda image on the top and dated to 1353 AD.

The inscription states that Mallareddy, the military general of the kingdom, built a village and named after him as Mallavaram and donated some lands to temple dedicated to Raghunatha Devara for its maintenance.

B Hanuma Reddy, advocate from Ongole and Subhakar Medasani, secretary, Vijayawada Buddha Vihara, participated in excavation of inscription. While sensitising local people on the historical importance of inscription, he also appealed to the Department of Archaeology and Museums to safe guard it.
