Andhra Pradesh government moved a bill here on Monday towards amending Andhra Pradesh Farmers Management of Irrigation Systems Act-1997 to strengthen the farmers’ organisations. Actually the government had reviewed the Act 2015 and felt that the desired results could not be achieved. 

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh government moved a bill here on Monday towards amending Andhra Pradesh Farmers Management of Irrigation Systems Act-1997 to strengthen the farmers’ organisations. Actually the government had reviewed the Act 2015 and felt that the desired results could not be achieved.

After that a decision has been taken to suitably amend the section-34 of the Act and decided to constitute an expert panel to visit different States and study functioning of farmers organisations there. The experts committee visited States like Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The committee recommended continuation of the farmers management systems for five years and elect the leaders directly from farmers within six months.

Similarly, the farmers management systems would be strengthened financially. The Andhra Pradesh Money Lenders Bill, The Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Amendment Bill 2017, The Andhra Pradesh Agricultural Land conversion for Non Agricultural purposes Bill-2017 were also tabled in the Assembly.
