Amaravati: The State government announced that it will not increase power charges right now. This was disclosed by Energy Minister Kimidi Kala Venkata Rao during the Question Hour in the Legislative Council on Monday.

The Minister said that the Aggregate Revenue Requirement (ARR) for the financial year 2018-19 was under preparation and it would be submitted to AP Electricity Regulatory Commission.

He further elaborated that the Commission will assess the ARR proposals after conducting public hearing and will decide on power charges by March 31, 2018, for the year 2018-19.

Hence, the government could not ascertain about the changes in power charges for the next financial year at this juncture. Members in the Legislative Council also demanded stringent action against the unsafe packaged drinking water suppliers in the State.

In his reply, Minister for Health and Medical Education Kamineni Srinivas said the government would initiate action against the suppliers who are not certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The Minister was replying to a question raised by MLC P Sunitha in the council on Monday.

He admitted that packaged drinking water units and plants were mushrooming in the State without adhering to the standards prescribed by the Bureau of Indian Standards.

The enforcement officials have been inspecting and booking cases regularly against packaged drinking water plants which were not certified, he explained.

He added that the officials were lodging cases against the plants not following the prescribed standards based on Regulations of 2.3.14 (17) of Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restriction on sales) Regulations, 2011.
