Amarvati: Expressing concern over the boat accident in River Krishna near Pavitra Sangamam, TDP and BJP members wanted to know how the private companies run commercial boat operations without knowledge of tourism and irrigation departments. The members suspected possible collusion between tourism department officials and private boat owners.

Participating in a short discussion in Assembly on Monday, Rajamahendravaram TDP MLA Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary said that the tourism department seems to be not in control of the operations of the private boat owners.

He said the tourism staff at Bhavani Island in Vijayawada should have prevented the private boat crew from overloading.

BJP MLA P Vishnukumar Raju said the mishap would have been averted if the tourism staff prevented the private boat in Vijayawada.

Responding to this, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said enquiry would be conducted to know how the private boat entered Bhavani Island and on the role of Bhavani Island’s manager too.

“I have also some information about the role of tourism department staff who allegedly are colluding with the private companies. Vigilance department also submitted a report in November,” he said.

He also said any official who involved in such kind of activities would not be spared. “We will take the boat mishap incident as a lesson and the police enquiry will be conducted in time-bound and perfect manner,” he said.
