Amaravati: A new record was set under Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Project with diversion of 100 tmcft of water from River Godavari to Krishna through the lift scheme.

The Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd (MEIL) said that it had successfully executed the Pattiseema LI scheme and set another record in the management of the project.

Pattisema Project is a prestigious project that has linked two mighty rivers Krishna and Godavari. The MEIL completed the execution of the project within the scheduled time of one year. The main objective of the project is to divert 80 tmcft of water from Godavari to Krishna in 110 days.

The company said the project helped in diversion of 100 tmcft of water in 148 days this season and recording a 20% increase over the intended usage of the project.

Significant ayacut under Krishna delta has been brought under cultivation by utilising the Godavari water. “Normally, in any lift irrigation project, the pumps and motors are put to use only for three months or less every year.

Under Pattisema Project, all the 24 motors have been functional for the last 4 months. In all, 24 motors, 1.2 lakh hours, 159 tmcft of diverted water – these are the numbers that stand as a testimony to the success of the Pattisema Project,” the MEIL said.

The project also entered into the Limca Book of Records in the past for completion of the construction within the stipulated 365 days. The first pump was made functional in 173 days on September 18, 2015 and water was released.

After completion of the project, the pumps have been operated for 1.2 lakh hours till now. The government estimated that the farmers in Krishna Delta were able to reap benefits to an extent of Rs 24,000 crore due to Pattiseema water. Krishna Delta received water from Pattiseema in the beginning of July this year.

The State government said the farmers incurred heavy losses every year due to cyclones in December. With Pattiiseema, the farmers have started receiving water on time, they are reaping the benefits of a good harvest without any obstacles.
