For the first time, the Red Sanders Anti-Smuggling Task Force (RSASTF) personnel have arrested a gang of six members, who were hijacking vehicles carrying red sanders logs with country made guns, in Seshachalam forest in the early hours of Tuesday, and seized 20 red sanders logs, a vehicle, six country made guns and 11 bullet release metal pipes from them.

Tirupati: For the first time, the Red Sanders Anti-Smuggling Task Force (RSASTF) personnel have arrested a gang of six members, who were hijacking vehicles carrying red sanders logs with country made guns, in Seshachalam forest in the early hours of Tuesday, and seized 20 red sanders logs, a vehicle, six country made guns and 11 bullet release metal pipes from them.

The task force personnel came across six-member hijacking gang at Ragimanukunta forest area during combing operations. On seeing, they tried to flee but police chased and arrested them. The gang leader Hari was accused of opening a gun fire against forest employees two years ago. The gang members have confessed of hijacking several lorries smuggling red sanders logs in various places of Chittoor district.

Among those arrested, Rajanala and Manikyam were making country made guns and selling to the smugglers and hunters, who are regularly entering the Seshachalam forest. Speaking to the media, RSASTF IG Kantha Rao said a detailed probe was ordered about country made guns being used by red sanders smugglers to attack forest and task force personnel and hijacking trucks carrying red sanders logs.

He warned red sanders smugglers that task force cops will not hesitate to open fire on them with sophisticated guns if they try to attack. The IG informed the media that a total of 31 red sanders smugglers were killed in encounter with the task force police in the last 7 years.
