Boat tragedy: OWC seeks memorial for fellow-walkers

Ongole: The Ongole MP YV Subbareddy asked the District Collector, V Vinay Chand, to accord permission to the Ongole Walkers Club to construct a memorial on the Rangarayudu Tank Bund, where the deceased in the Vijayawada boat mishap used to walk on a daily bases.

Subbareddy met the walkers club members on Tuesday night while offering condolences to the deceased by lighting candles at the Rangarayudu tank. The members of the Ongole walkers club submitted a proposal to the MP that they wanted to construct a memorial for their friends on the tank bund.

On Wednesday morning the MP called on the Collector and requested him to accord permission for the memorial and also include the name of Rayapati Lakshmikantham, who died after seeing the dead body of her daughter, Devabhakthini Leelavathi in Ongole on Monday.

He asked the Collector to see that the ex gratia was allotted for the old woman so that her heir and granddaughter Manaswini would get the money in the future. The MP said in a note that he had sent a formal request to the Collector. The Collector said that appropriate action would be taken.
