Vijayawada: The priests of the Sri Durga Malleswari Swami temple resumed harathi at Ferry in Ibrahimpatnam mandal of Krishna District on Wednesday. The priests of temple conducted Shanthi pooja and Shuddhi programme in view of recent deaths in the boat accident. The temple stopped harathi for three days after the boat tragedy which took place on Sunday evening.

However, the officials of Durga temple again have started the harathi. Temple executive officer Surya Kumari said the harathi programme would continue as usual. She also said that they offered poojas to Krishna River. The officials and priests faced criticism for not using life jackets. Several people questioned them how they ventured into the river without life jackets when recently boat capsized near to the spot.

The executive officer (EO) of temple speaking to the Hans India said that they went in to river only for a distance of one and half feet. They have all security materials and boat also country made variety she said and added that that’s why they did not wear life jackets. There was no question of any danger or possibility of accident, she said.
