Vijayawada: The three-day relay fast by A P Medical Employees concluded at Dharna Chowk on Wednesday. Addressing the gathering AITUC State general secretary Obulesu warned that if the government did not withdraw the move to privatise the services of the Medical and Health department staff they would intensify the agitation. “If the government will privatise the department it will not do any services to the poor patients coming to government hospitals. The services of 104,108 will be affected,” he said.

He reminded that the government had already handed over GGH in Chittoor to Apollo Hospitals. Similarly, the govt was ready to give some more hospitals to the various corporate hospitals. He said that there was a need to intensify the agitation to mount pressure on the government to withdraw the move on privatisation.

He said, “If the department is privatised, there will be no job security for the employees. The government is not filling vacancies of the doctors, nurses, for some time now. As a result the hospitals are unable to render better medical services to the patients.” AITUC state secretary Kodali Ramana, AITUC leaders Pydiraju and Kallepalli Sailaja were among those participated.
