Kakinada: The Prohibition and Excise Department Officials destroyed as many as 12,698 Marijuana plants at Y Ramavaram mandal in the late hours of Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, Assitant Commissioner, Prohibition and Excise Enforcement Kakinada, K Hemantha Nagaraju said that a task force team of Police, Revenue, Agriculture and Excise department officials went to Pathakota Panchayat in Y Ramavaram Mandal to identify illegal Marijuana farms.

He further said that Marijuana crop was being grown in nearly about 5.1 acres of government Poramboke lands on the outskirts of Peda Pulisuri Metta, Buradakota and Dora Koppulakota villages, all falling within the Pathakota Panchayat. He also informed that water streams that flow in the hills were the source for the crop.

Nagaraju also said that A 54-member team of Excise department officials took part in the raids and destroyed the total crop in that area. He informed that three cases have been booked on the Marijuana cultivators under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985 for illegal farming of Marijuana. Y Ramavaram Tahsildar, Sub-Inspector of Gurthedu, Forest Range Officer Rampachodavaram and Agriculture Officer of Y Ramavaram were in the raiding team of the task force.
