Eluru: Tense situation prevailed following an agitation by Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS) activists at District Collectorate here on Wednesday.

In response to a call given by MRPS President Manda Krishna Madiga, the activists rallied to District Collectorate from Fire Station centre. They tried to enter into the Collectorate by pushing the barricades arranged by the police. The police who were deployed in a big number obstructed the activists at the barricades. The activists pushed the barricades to go into the Collector’s office where the Collector was conducting review meetings. At one stage, a scuffle took place between police and the MRPS activists.

The MRPS Yuvasena State President Sirra Balaji said that both the Telugu State Governments had forgotten the SC classification bill, which was promised by TDP and TRS in their manifestos. He said that the MRPS was demanding that the governments take up the SC classification bill in the Assembly session.

As the MRPS activists did not heed the requests of police, they immediately took 10 activists into their custody and shifted to the three-town police station. Later they were released. MRPS State leaders Palivela Chanti, District in-charge K Vijaya Kumar, district leaders Inupanuri Jagadish Babu, Kandula Ramesh, Yarra Nageswara Rao, Chintati Rajendra, Kasi Krishna, Kasi Siva and others led the agitation.
