Gitam School of International Business (GSIB) organised one-day conference on “Internet of Things: Synergising Knowledge for Academic Excellence” in its campus on Thursday. The conference, inaugurated by Joint Director GSIB KK Narayanan, was organised in two sessions.

The speakers for the conference came from different segments of the industry and offered valuable insights to the participants and audience. They emphasised the need to evaluate the technology in terms of the benefits and value it was creating to the end user.

Some of the speakers discussed about how the IoT applications were being adopted in developing a smart city. In a similar vein, representative from Indian Railways discussed about the scope of IoT technologies in improving passenger safety and providing better travel experience for the passengers.

Gaurav Anand from Efftronics Limited explained his experiences on the project under implementation and relating to time lag involved in making a city to the experiences of Japan and Auckland, particularly from Jamshedpur which was the capital city for Tata group of companies.

Another speaker and DGM of Product and Business Development of Volvo trucks Deepak Aggarwal spoke about connectivity in commercial vehicles was going to be more important with each passing day.

The customers were demanding and looking for efficiency not just from the product, but on overall operations. Connected trucks of future would be able to diagnose it while running, schedule services with the workshops in idle hours maximising uptime, update the software to maximise efficiency as some examples, he explained.

The audience had received valuable information by posing questions on IoT applications of Smart Grid, experiences from different countries, smart city application experiences.

Programme Director AV Rao, co-directors VNVR Sastry and K Kamakshaiah and coordinator of the conference Seetharam Mukkavilli also spoke. The other speakers Dasari RamaKrishna, K Chandra Mohan, V S Sridhar, Shefali Bansal Surya Lanka, Pavan Duggal G Venkat and Shankar from Efftronics Limited spoke on various IoT applications.
