Vijayawada: Language Pandits under the banner of Rastreeya Upadhya Pandita Parishath -Andhra Pradesh, on Thursday, staged a Maha Dharna at Dharna Chowk here, demanding that the government do justice to them as per the service rules GO No 73 and 74 .They warned to boycott classes if the government did not respond.

Addressing the gathering, Rastreeya Upadhya Pandit Parishath -Andhra Pradesh president T Giriraj, demanded that the government give promotions to the language pandits based on the seniority and take pandit training also into consideration for MEO and HM promotion. He stressed on the need to take pandit training also into consideration, on par with B Ed, as per GO Ms No 73 in giving promotions.

He asked the government to remove MA(Hindi) as a qualification for School Assistant Hindi and Hindi Language Pandit posts. He urged the government to fill 30 per cent of the upgraded posts with promotions and requested the government to fill teachers selected with TTC qualifications in primary schools.

Earlier, the language pandits who came from 13 districts to Vijayawada took out a rally from Tummalapalli Kalakshetram to Dharna Chowk to register their protest. Later, they staged a Maha Dharna at Dharna Chowk.
Rastreeya Pandit Parishath -Andhra Pradesh general secretary M Ravichandra Kumar was among those who participated.
