Polavaram Dam site: The TDP and BJP legislators are left with abundant knowledge and rich memories from the Polavaram dam site, even though they came without any expectations. They are astonished by the latest technology being used for the construction of Polavaram project. At the dam site, water resources department Engineer-in Chief M Venkateswara Rao explained to the MLAs, MLCs and ministers the progress of works and the technology that was being used for the construction.
About 50 MLAs, 15 MLCs, six ministers and one MP visited Pattiseema Pump House, Pattiseema outflow canal and Polavaram dam site on Thursday.Minister for water resources Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao guided the team from Vijayawada. IT minister Nara Lokesh, Pithani Satyanarayana, Kalava Srinivasulu, K S Jawahar, Paritala Sunitha and Chief Whip Palle Raghunatha Reddy joined later. BJP floor leader in Assembly P Vishnukumar Raju and other MLAs also visited the site.
The law makers were touring for two days in the state to know the Polavaram project works on Thursday and to attend Ag-Tech Summit in Visakhapatnam on Friday. The tour was decided on November 10, when the Assembly session began. At the Polavaram dam site, members visited spillway works, diaphragm wall, gates and enquired about the works which were under progress.
After completing the Polavaram visit, the legislators left for Visakhapatnam. Even though they started early in the morning from Vijayawada, they did not reach the dam site till 2 pm. Due to this, they could not spend much time. They halted at two points, one at Denduluru where the local MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar offered tea and snacks and later at Koyyalagudem where MP Maganti Babu gave snacks to the team.
In the tour, MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna was the main attraction and drew the attention of legislators, party cadre and the workers. Appreciating the workers, Balakrishna stated that on each and every brick of the project, the names of 4,000 workers would be written permanently.
“Seeing is believing, and with this visit, I realised the efforts put up by the state and the Central governments in the construction of the project. They are using latest technology,” observed Balakrishna after the visit. Water resources minister D Uma Maheswara Rao observed that they would complete the project as per the schedule. He explained that to avoid delay in construction due to lack of financial resources with the main contractor Transstroy, the government has decided to give a part of work to other company. He said that they had invited tenders for that work and will be completed by the end of December.
