Kurnool: District Collector S Satyanarayana directed the mandal-level officials to make field visits at least thrice in a week and hold discussions with the people to know their problems. He instructed the officials during his night stay at Government BC Welfare Hostel in Burujula village of Maddikera mandal on Wednesday.

He halted at the hostel as part of ‘Palle Nidra’ for knowing the problems being faced by the hostel students. The Collector had a dinner with students and interacted with elderly people and youth. He heard the problems being faced by them and assured that he would solve them by giving top priority. The villagers said that the animals, especially deer, were destroying their farm fields.

It is not possible to guard the fields during the night as they come in huge numbers and damage the entire crops, they lamented and said if the fields are fenced with electric wires then the deer may be electrocuted, and this will result in additional problems from the Forest department personnel. The villagers also brought to the notice of the Collector about the drinking water scarcity and poor sanitation, non-issuance of new ration cards and other issues related to their village.

The Collector assured villagers of resolving their issues at the earliest. He instructed the officials to take up plantation of saplings on the premises of government offices, educational institutions and on farm bunds. He directed the government staff to focus on making villages open defecation-free (ODF).
