Dr M Y S Prasad, former Director, Satish Dhavan Space Centre, will be the chief guest at the 18th convocation of Sri Krishnadevaraya University (SKU) on December 7, Vice-Chancellor Prof K Rajagopal announced at a press conference here on Thursday.

Anantapur: Dr M Y S Prasad, former Director, Satish Dhavan Space Centre, will be the chief guest at the 18th convocation of Sri Krishnadevaraya University (SKU) on December 7, Vice-Chancellor Prof K Rajagopal announced at a press conference here on Thursday.

Dr Prasad is to be conferred honorary doctorate. As many as 328 candidates would receive PhD degrees, 201 of them directly, and 37 in absentia. A total of 2,352 candidates are to receive degree certificates.

Prof Rajagopal stated that in the PG category 1,815 would receive master degrees, including 1,118 in absentia, while 627 would be presented the certificates. As many as 33 are to receive M Tech, including 19, while 14 are to be given in absentia. A total of 266 candidates will to receive B Tech degrees.

In the degree courses, 5,528 in B Sc; 6,487 in B Com/BBM; 1,505 in BA; 451 in B Ed and 33 in B Pharmacy (total of 14,000 ) are to be handed over certificates. In the distance education category---269 in B Sc; 234 in B Com/BBA; 312 in BA---815 would receive degrees, the V-C stated.

Among those present were Rector Prof Lajapathi Rai, Registrar Prof K Sudhakar Babu, PRO Dr P Balakrishna. Later, the V-C held discussions with the officials over the arrangements to be made for the convocation.

He suggested that several departments should conduct on the occasion cultural programmes. Those present included Principals of Science and Arts Colleges Prof R R Venkata Raju and Prof S V Pulla Reddy, several professors, the controller of examinations, the deputy registrar and assistant registrar, an official release said.
