Singarayakonda: The women from Malapadu village in Ponnaluru mandal started a protest for the second time against the sale of liquor in the village. The women allege that the men in the village were spending all of their daily wages on liquor and quarreling with the family members regularly.

About a month ago, the officials permitted to open a liquor shop in the village. The women protested for three days against the sale of liquor and submitted representations to the tahsildar, police and even to the Collector to not permit the shop in the village. However the shop owner dared to open the business and the local men become regular customers to him.

The women who are unable to bear the nuisance with the liquor shop staged a protest in front of the liquor shop on Friday. The women said, “We have submitted representations to the tahsildar and Collector to let us live peacefully and not to allow liquor in the village. The officials didn’t taken any action and now what we feared the most, is happening.

Every evening it has become a habit for the men of the village to consume alcohol and beat the women and children in the house, irrespective of her being his wife or mother or daughter. This has to be put to an end immediately, before it takes a worse shape. We demand the officials to remove the liquor shop in the village immediately and protect the peaceful atmosphere of our homes.”
